Platform

I am committed to working tirelessly and responsibly to improve infrastructure, recreation opportunities, transportation, safety, and the quality of life in all our communities.

Communication

A commitment to being available to you – full-time

In my term as District 1 councillor, I have demonstrated my commitment to the residents of our communities by treating this privilege as a full-time job. I pledge to continue to be available by email, phone, in-person, one-on-one, and by attending meetings throughout the District. I will also organize community meetings, distribute monthly online newsletters, and print newsletters twice a year. I will be a transparent councillor and provide residents with up-to-date information on my daily calendar via my Facebook page.

I will continue to foster a good working relationship with our District’s MPs and MLAs, promoting a cooperative approach on issues and projects that involve municipal, provincial, and federal jurisdictions.

Growth and Community Building

Ensuring infrastructure and services meet the demands of our growing communities

Our communities throughout HRM are currently growing faster than our infrastructure can keep up with. We have historic levels of homelessness and housing insecurity. I will call for a rural housing needs assessment to ensure government a complete picture of the housing crisis.

As we build the inventory of housing needed, I will work to ensure that this is aligned with the creation of appropriate infrastructure – water, wastewater, and transit. More people and less service is not the answer.  We can reduce red tape and implement a suburban and rural plan that supports strong communities.

I will bring your voices to Regional Council so that your ideas and concerns are considered in HRM development plans. We have a vision for our communities, and I will work to ensure that it is not lost in the growth of our municipality.

Non-Profit / Volunteer Support

Supporting our volunteers and non-profit organziations

One of our District’s greatest assets is our volunteer community. I am committed to supporting the more than 20 community halls, volunteer firefighters, Ground Search and Rescue, numerous non-profits, and many sports organizations in our District. From assistance with grant writing, using District capital funds to leverage other funding opportunities, and providing governance support, I will continue to make myself available as a resource to volunteer groups as they live out the missions of their organizations.

Taxes

Delivering value for your investment

Taxes are investments in our communities, and I will work to deliver accountability for your municipal taxes and ensure they are responsibly used to create much-needed infrastructure and provide essential services in our District. In my roles as Vice Chair of the Audit & Finance Standing Committee and Chair of the Grants Committee, I work to ensure that our tax dollars create and maintain infrastructure and services, protect our natural environment, and support the quality of life of residents in our District and throughout HRM.  I will continue to advocate for the federal government to modernize the way it funds municipalities. Maximizing every tax dollar spent while being mindful that taxes need to be affordable allows us the opportunity to live, work and play in the place we all call home – whether that's urban, suburban or rural.

Protecting our Environment

Protecting our beautiful natural environment

As the second largest district in HRM, District 1 is home to the beautiful lakes, parks, hiking trails, rivers, streams, the agricultural belt, and many open green spaces.

So many residents enjoy lake access, community benches, outdoor adventure playgrounds, and recapitalized playgrounds. As your councillor, I will continue to protect our environment, maintain and grow safe recreational land and water use, and support outdoor recreation for sport, health, and wellness.

Community Safety

Protecting the safety of all residents

In my term as councillor, I have played an active role in the creation of the Community Safety Division and one of my most significant accomplishments has been the creation of the Voluntary Vulnerable Persons Registry. I will continue my efforts to protect the safety of all residents in my next term and will work to establish a local RCMP community office in collaboration within HRM property.

My Vision for the Next Four Years - and Beyond

In the four years ahead, I am committed to continuing my work advocating for the residents of District 1 and the needs of our beautiful communities. I will work to address the infrastructure, environmental, and safety issues that are arising due to our District’s and municipality’s rapid growth. Some of the areas that I will continue to work on include:

• Increasing recreational opportunities and access to public lakes in our District

• Installing upgraded traffic lights where needed such as the Fall River Road and Highway 2 intersection

• Advocating for a RCMP local detachment in Fall River

• Expanding transit service throughout the District

• Extending the Water Service Boundary

• Creating and implementing Emergency Management Programs for communities including Secondary Egress Plans

• Revising HRM’s Policing Model based on analysis of all the Policing Reports before Council

• Transferring of roads from the Province to HRM, especially in community centres
