I grew up in Cape Breton and moved to the Halifax Regional Municipality four decades ago to attend Mount Saint Vincent University. After earning a degree at the Mount, I enjoyed a rewarding career in the non-profit sector, including 25 years leading DASC, a social enterprise that supports adults with intellectual disabilities. I have been a proud resident of District 1 (Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley), where I live with my husband, Percy, and our dog, Charlie, for more than 29 years.

It has been a great honour to serve the residents of our district on the Halifax Regional Council since my election in the fall of 2020. In addition to my role as councillor, I have served as Deputy Mayor since being selected by my Council peers last November. I am also part of the North West Community Council and in my capacity as District 1 Councillor, hold positions on the following committees and boards:

• Accessibility Advisory Committee

• Appeals Standing Committee

• Audit and Finance Committee (Vice Chair)

• Canadian Capital Cities Organization

• Environment and Sustainability Committee (Vice Chair)

• Executive Standing Committee

• Grants Committee (Chair)

• Halifax Regional Water Commission (Vice Chair)

• Halifax Partnership

Through my outreach work, I also sit on the Aerotech Community Liaison Community Committee, the Halifax International Airport Authority Advisory Committee, the Goffs Quarry Community Liaison, and Mus-go Rider (ex Officio). And, as a volunteer supporting our community, I share my time with the Fall River Area Lakes Lions Club – Christmas Express,

Keloose, St. Andre Bessette Parish, the Canadian Progress Club Nova, and 100+ Women Who Care Halifax.

When I began my term as Councillor for District 1, the first motion I made at Council was to commit to an artificial turf field at Lockview High School and I am thrilled this is becoming a reality. Throughout the District, many improvements have been made to our parks and recreation areas, speeding and road safety has been made a priority, and I have been successful in accessing funds for all community centres in the District.

What I’ve Achieved for You Since 2020:

• Approval and Funding for an Artificial Turf Field at Lockview High School (completed by fall 2025)

• As a result of my advocacy and motion to Council, a Voluntary Vulnerable Persons Registry has been established

• Construction of a Playground and Water Feature in Middle Musquodoboit

• Increased funding for Summer Inclusion Programs

• The creation of Community Safety Business Unit

• Revision of Gravel Road Program which prioritizes Confederation Avenue

• Have acted as a vigilant and vocal advocate around infrastructure and environmental issues arising from the provincial declaration of Special Planning Areas in Fall River.

• Approval for a long-awaited report on the opportunity to bring Halifax Transit from Perrin Drive along Highway 2 to the Aerotech Connector

• Extensive renovations to parks and courts in Meagher’s Grant, Wellington, Carroll’s Corner, Musquodoboit Rural High, Thompson Drive Park, Beaverbrook Park, Taylor Drive Park, and the Fall River Skate Park

• Advocating for an end to homelessness and safety and dignity for all people

• HalifACT – the most progressive climate change program

• Infrastructure improvements for our green spaces and lake access such as benches and improved boat launch on Lake Thomas, a new dock at Raena June Perry Memorial Park, and new benches at Waverley Green
